Add my storyBiography
Flor was born the eldest child to Reverend Henry and Adriana Bosschart Stephens. After finishing school he commenced studies for School Teaching. He spoke seven European Languages fluently. He enlisted on 8th July 1915, training in Queensland and Egypt.
Whilst he was supposed to be an interpreter, Records read " No 942, Pte A.F.B.Stephens wa a Battalion Runner, and whilst on duty carrying a despatch he was mortally wounded by a shell to the head, 21/11/16".
Routine order number 1113 mentioned "He displayed coolness and courage in carrying messages under fire daily, inspiring others working with him".
This "Mention in Despatches" was never recognised in London by the Administrative Headquarters.
