George Hamilton Sydney Maddock was born in 1874 near Warwick, Queensland, a son to Rigby James Maddock and Laura Casandra Maddock (nee Barnes). He married Frances Mary Queale on 5 Sep 1911 in Queensland.
He served twice in the South African (Boer) War and also enlisted for WW1. First service was as a Private (rising to Sergeant) S.N. 170 in the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, Boer War. Second service was as a Private S.N. 692 in the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, Boer War. Third service was as a Private/Trooper S.N. 1304 in the 1st Camel Regiment (11th Light Horse Reg.), AIF, WW1.
