20 Aug 1901:	Embarked Australian and Colonial Military Forces - Boer War Contingents, Private, 627, 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, AWM Boer War Nominal Roll, Murray p. 506 notes the he was part of 1st Draft of the 6th QIB embarking at Sydney 20 Aug 1901 aboard Britannic arriving at Cape Town 22 Sep 1901.

William James Stuart served twice in the South African (Boer) War, first as a Private S.N. 246 in the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, and second as a Private S.N. 627 in the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen. Newspaper reports indicate he remained in South Africa for further service when the 6th QIB returned to Australia, date of his return and discharge is unknown.(source AWM Boer War Nominal Roll, Murray p. 484 and 518; National Archives Australia- Boer War Dossier 1st service).
