Hercules Trevethan was born Elihu Hercules Trevethan on 19 Sep 1877 at Toowoomba, Queensland, a son to Thomas Trevethan and Isabella Trevethan (nee McPherson). He married Ethel Maude Millicent Atthow on 29 Mar 1906 at Eagle Junction- Brisbane, Queensland and they had 1 child.
He served in both the South African (Boer) War and WW1. First service was as a Sergeant S.N. 125 in the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, Boer War. Second service was as a Air Mechanic 2nd Class (rising to 1st Class) in the Australian Flying Corps AIF, WW1.
