Warrant Officer Edward Joseph Goodridge (Service No:WX17397) first enlisted in the ACMF (Private; Service No:W7776) with 11th Battalion VDC. He transferred to FTD with the AIF on 27 October 1941 (3 Training Battalion) and transferred to 10th Armoured Regiment on 15 November 1941. Private Goodridge embarked from Townsville with the Pacfic Island Regiment on 12 June 1945, bound for Lae on board the Tarooma. He was promoted to Corporal, Lance Sergeant and Sergeant before being appointed WOII on 27 February 1946. WO Goodridge served in New Guinea and the Fauro (British Solomon) Islands and was Discharged on 9 September 1946.
Born in Perth WA in 1920, Edward was the ninth of eleven children of Enest Goodridge (b1882 in Surrey, ENgland) and Caroline Lowder (b1883 in Kent, England). Ernest (a General Shop Dealer) and Caroline (a Wardrobe Dealer) married in 1900 in Kent, England. They lived in Surrey, where Ernest was a Marine Shop Dealer, until 1914 when they immigrated to Fremantle WA with their five children, arriving on board the Australind - Ernest gave his occupation as Labourer. The family settled in Collie, WA where Ernest was as Plasterer and Driver when he enlisted in the AIF in 1915 (Private; Service No:3837). When he Discharged in 1916, the family lived in Leederville and Claremont where Ernest was a Fireman. In the early 1920s Ernest was awarded land at Bramley Siding nr Cowaramup WA under the Group 17 Settlement Scheme. By the late 1920s the family had returned to Perth where Ernest worked as a Storeman.
Edward was working as a Carpenter's Improver in Perth in 1939, and stated he was a Truck Driver in his AIF Attestation Papers. Following his Discharge, Edward was a Storeman in Perth in 1948 when he married Jean Patricia Sutherland (b1924). Edward and Jean settled in Perth, where Edward worked as a Storeman, Clerk and Director. Edward died in 1983 and Jean in 2016.
