14 May 1919: Honoured Military Medal, Citation reads: During the attacks on Le Catelet-Nauroy Line, Nauroy and the Sugar Factory east of Nauroy on 29th/30th September and 1st October 1918 for his splendid work and devotion to duty. He was employed as a Stretcher Bearer and in the face of heavy enemy Machine Gun fire he rescued many wounded carrying them through intense artillery fire to the Aid Post. When our own wounded were all brought in he carried on bringing in many of the enemy wounded, until he became exhausted to be relieved. His courage and sell sacrifice were an example to all.
