Son of George Robert and Susan Elizabeth Tweedie, of 2, Carshalton St., Croydon, New South Wales. Native of Dubbo.
William was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. G.R. Tweedie of Croydon. He was educated at the Cowra Public School, and afterwards at the Bathurst High School and after leaving school joined the clerical staff of the Sydney Morning Herald.
In August 1915, he volunteered and was accepted for service as a Signaller and was posted to reinforcements for the 2nd Battalion. A few months later he was in action in France, being in the engagements at Armentieres and Pozieres, and thence through the Somme. He was killed in the Battle of Arras at Hermes in April 1917.
Two brothers also seved throughout the war.
