HAROLD LESLIE DUCKWORTH was born in Sydney, New South Wales, on 23rd August, 1889, the son of Mr. Arthur and Mrs. Matilda Duckworth. He was educated a t the Woollahra Grammar School under Mr. Andrew Gardiner, M.A.
Harald Duckworth entered the Bank’s service at the Head Office on 6th February, 1908; was transferred on 16th December, 1911, to Pitt Street Branch, as ledger-keeper, and left there to enlist in the A.I.F. in March, 1916. He joined the 34th Battalion, 3rd Division, as a private and won promotion to warrant-officer; his service extending to three years and eight months. With three others he received the congratulations of General Birdwood on his courage and devotion to duty in saving stores from the town of Hazebrouck while under bombardment.
