Great Sydney Central Station Honour Board
Henry (or Harry) Edward COSGROVE, (Service Number 6096) was born on 21 January 1894 at Parramatta. He began work as a store boy at Eveleigh on 18 August 1911 and remained with this job designation until he became a labourer on his 21st birthday in 1915. Shortly after this age milestone Cosgrove enlisted at Victoria Barracks, Sydney, on 16 April.

Henry (or Harry) Edward COSGROVE, (Service Number 6096) was born on 21st January 1894 at Parramatta. He began work as a store boy at Eveleigh (Sydney) on 18th August 1911 and remained with this job designation until he became a labourer on his 21st birthday in 1915. Shortly after this age milestone Cosgrove enlisted at Victoria Barracks, Sydney, on 16th April. He was assigned to the 15th Army Service Corps and left Australia from Sydney on HMAT ‘Afric’ only a month later on 17th May. Allowing some time for the passage to Egypt, after only a few weeks training, he embarked on HMS ‘Saturnia’ for the Dardanelles on 16th August. Again, allowing for time on the ship in transit his career at Gallipoli must have been very short for he was admitted to the 16th Casualty Clearing Station on 27th August with a gunshot wound to his head, which was noted as ‘perforating’. He died the same day.
He is presumed to be buried in the Embarkation Pier Cemetery, Anzac, Gallipoli, but his actual grave cannot be identified. Since his role in the Army Service Corps was behind the front lines, and noting his burial place, he may never have got past the beach.
