Philip Stuart Richardson enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 21st August 1915 for service in World War I. He was 25½ years old, a commercial agent by occupation, and he lived in Willowie, South Australia. Unmarried, his next of kin was his father, James Campbell Richardson, of Laura, South Australia. He had no criminal record or prior military service and agreed to get vaccinated. Richardson signed the paper, ready to serve Australia wherever needed.
Philip Stuart Richardson was in the best of health, with no medical or physical problems, and was considered fit for active military service. He enlisted 31 August 1915. He left Australia 22nd November 1915 and arrived at Suez 21st December 1915.
He embarked from Alexandria on 17 March 1916, and proceeded to join the British Expeditionary Force. Richardson was promoted to Acting Bombardier on 9 March 1918. Key events include periods of leave in 1917 and 1918, rejoining active duty afterward, and demobilization activities in early 1919, including a return to England and final administrative procedures.
He returned to Australia and was discharged 1st August 1919.
