Julius Ivar Edmund NYMAN (2250) was a 27 year old single postal mechanic who enlisted in Warwick, Queensland on 7 February 1916. He listed as his next of kin, his Mother, Mrs Natholia Nyman, Dickens Street, Norman Park, East Brisbane, Queensland. He was born in Uleaborg, Finland. NYMAN embarked from Brisbane, Queensland, on board HMAT A42 Boorara on 16 August 1916 as a member of the 49th Battalion, 4th Reinforcement. After training in England as a signaller he was taken on strength of the 49th Battalion on 18 January 1917. He was wounded in action at Messines on 7 June 1917 and was treated in the field. He was wounded a second time on 24 September 1918 and transferred eventually to Bath Hospital, England. He had been appointed a Lance Corporal. After treatment he rejoined the 49th Battalion in France at the end of October 1918. He returned to Australia 12 May 1919.
