Martin Christiansen served in both the South African (Boer) War and WW1. First service was as a Private S.N. 283 in the 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry, Boer War. Second service was as a Gunner S.N. 37317 in the 3rd Div. Amm. Col. A.I.F. Feild Artillery, 30th Reinforcements, WW1.
On his return from the Boer War, Martin married Rose Annie Young on 19 July 1901 and would have four children. He had worked as a farmer in Goomeri, Qld but later relocated to the bayside area of Manly, Qld where he was residing at the time of his passing in 1949.
