Mobilized August 1914 1st King Edwards Horse.
Arrived France 21 April 1915
Returned to England in December 1916 to attend No 17 Officer Cadet Battalion.
Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant Northumberland Fusiliers.
4 October to 6 December 1917 Army Signal School, Dunstable.
Returned to France with 8th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers.
Returned to England 6 July 1918 for a Signals course at Haynes Park, Signal Depot, Bedford.
Transferred to Royal Engineers Signal Section.
Lieutenant 30 November 1918.
Demobilized 15 February 1919.
