George was the youngest of three children of George Andrew Johnson (b1897 in Fremantle, WA) and Evangeline Sheridan - Adams (b1899 in Perth, WA). George Snr (a Horse Driver) and Evangeline married in 1918 in Fremantle, WA where they settled and George Snr worked as a Horse Driver, Lumper and Housekeeper. By 1931 Goerge and Evangeline had separated and Evangeline remarried - Johannes Schenk - in 1939.

George was working as an Apprentice Chairmaker in 1942 when he enlisted in the ACMF (Private; Service No:W47142). He was Discharged to enlist in the RAAF in June 1942 (Warrant Officer; Service No:427243) and was atatched to ACAC when he was Discharged in March 1947. 

In 1948 George had returned to Fremantle where he was working as a Chairmaker when he married Dorothy May Metcalf (b1924 in Fremantle WA). Dorothy was working as a Shop Assistant in Fremantle, and had served in the Australian Army in WWII (Private; Service No:WF94350).

George and Dorothy lived in Fremantle where George worked as a Chairmaker and Dorothy as a Shop Assistant before moving to Mount Pleasant. George became a Manager and Dorothy a Secretary. Dorothy died in 2016 and George in 2017.
