Len was the sixth of eight children of Leonard Albert Pocknall (b1884 in Dunedin, New Zealnad) and Annie Maxwell (b1886 in Maffra, Gippsland, Victoria). Leonard was a Grocer when he arrived in Melbourne Victoria in 1907 on board the Karori. Leonard (a Carpenter) and Annie married in 1912 in Maffra, Victoria where they settled and raised their family.
Len was a Labourer in Tinamba, Maffra when he enlisted in the RAAF in December 1941. Len was described by the Selection Committe as 'A strong hefty youth .... Good country type, very respectful, neat and clean'. He was attached to Care and Maintenance Unit Tocumwal (Leading Aircraftman; Service No:49394) when he was Discharged in1946.
Returning to Tinamba, Len was working as a Trapper in 1948 when he married Dorothy (Dot) Joyce Lillvillieres Coombes (b1923 in Warrugul, Victoria). Len and Dot settled in Tinamba where Len worked as a Trapper until 1965 when he became Reservoir Keeper at Buffalo River in Ovens, Victoria. By 1972 he was Caretaker at Glenmaggie Weir in Maffra. Dot died in 1987 and Len in 2010.
