Daughter of James SHARPE and Susan Elizabeth nee HALL
Married Leo Roy DE GARIS 23 June 1923 at Methodist Church, Pirie Street, Adelaide.
MRS. L. R. DeGARIS
Penola, Saturday.
The death of Mrs. L. R. DeGaris occurred at her home in Penola on Friday morning. It was not unexpected, as she had been seriously ill for two years. Prior to her illness Mrs. DeGaris took a keen interest in church work and all charitable efforts, and endeared herself to all who came in contact with her. When the Great War commenced the deceased was a nurse in Western Australia, and offered her services to the defence department. She had over two years service with the A.A.N.S. in Egypt. It is probable that during her experience in war time, in serving the Empire, the foundations were laid for her two years' suffering which ended a useful life.
It was while Mr. L. R. DeGaris was on service in Egypt that he met his wife, and intense sympathy with him
is felt throughout the district.
The funeral was held this afternoon, and was very largely attended. The beautiful lot of floral tributes, including a wreath from the ladies of St. Andrew's Church, testified to the high esteem in which the deceased lady was held by the residents of Penola. The pall bearers were the three brothers of the bereaved husband, and Dr. R. G.Burnard, a brother-in-law. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. Ralph Rankin, and the mortuary arrangements were in the hands of Messrs. Platt Bros., Narracoorte.
