LETTER FROM PRIVATE BALLE.
On April 9 Private P. T. Balle wrote to his parents, of Adams road, Quarry Hill, stating that he was in France and well, after having a fine trip on a calm sea. The train journey in France occupied two days and two nights through beautiful green country, the scenery of which is much better than Egypt. The coast of France is very rocky and rugged. The country is hilly, and the villages are in the valleys. The roads, which, are as white as snow, are splendid. When he was writing Private Balle could hear the big guns roaring. He has since been wounded.
