Captain Lawrence Joseph ' Beattie passed away on Saturday at the residence of his brother (Sergeant J. F. Beattie) at the South Melbourne Police Station.
The late Captain Beattie was a son of the late Mr.and Mrs. James Beattie of Nirranda. He was formerly a farmer in the Riverina and served with the 38th Battalion during the war, and
he was mentioned in dispatches and was decorated for bravery. The family had a distinguished war record: One brother (Capt. J. T. Beattie) fought with the t2th Brigade Field Artillery, another (the late Sergeant M. Beattie), served with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force.
Captain Lawrence Beattie was a single man; and 49 years of age at the time of his death. Interment took place in the Roman Catholic compartment of the Coburg Cemetery on Monday. The funeral was largely attended, and the arrangements were in the hands of R. McKenzie.
