Arthur was the son of Frederick and Emily Gillett nee [Ilderton]. Arthur left
from Melbourne on board HMAT A35 Berrima on 22 December 1914. He
proceeded to Gallipoli with 4 Field Ambulance where he was killed in action
on 15 June 1915, aged 20 years and 10 months. Arthur was buried at Lone
Pine Memorial, Gallipoli. His father received his son’s Memorial Scroll,
Memorial Plaque and Victory Medal between July 1921 and September 1922.

"THE LATE PRIVATE A. S. T. GILLETT.

Private A. S. T. Gillett, who died in action at the Dardanelles, was the third son of Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Gillett, of Freeling. He joined the Second Expeditionary Force, and was attached to the 4th Field Ambulance. He was born at Leigh's Creek in 1894, and would have been 21 in August. Private Gillett was a grandson of Mrs. T. Ilderton, Quorn also of Mr. and Mrs. S. Gillett, of Narrogin, Western Australia." - from the Adelaide Chronicle 26 Jun 1916 (nla.gov.au)
