Died on this date – 24th January.... Norman Francis Henry Beggs was born at Ballarat, Victoria in 1898. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 2nd February, 1917 as an 18 year old, single, Jackaroo from Nareeb-Nareeb, Glen Thompson, Victoria.

Gunner Norman Francis Henry Beggs embarked from Melbourne on HMAT Port Sydney (A15) on 9th November, 1917 with the Field Artillery, 30th Reinforcements & disembarked at Suez on 12th December, 1917. Gunner Beggs embarked from Alexandria aboard HMT Karoa on 18th December, 1917 & disembarked at Taranto on 22nd December, 1917 before finally disembarking at Southampton, England on 4th January, 1918.

Gunner Beggs was marched in from Australia to R.B.A.A. (Reserve Brigade Australian Artillery) at Heytesbury, Wiltshire on 4th January, 1918. He was admitted to Military Hospital at Sutton Veny, Wiltshire on 17th January, 1918 with Influenza.

Gunner Norman Francis Henry Beggs died on 24th January, 1918 at the Military Hospital, Sutton Veny of Bronchitis – acute purulent. He was buried in St. John the Evangelist Churchyard, Sutton Veny, Wiltshire, England where 140 other WW1 Australian Soldiers & 2 Australian Nurses are buried.
