Warrant Officer Morton William James Munt (Service No:42874) enlisted in the RAAF on 21 MAy 1942 as an Aircraftman II, progressing to Leading Aircraftman in January 1943, and Sergeant (Wireless Operator) in September 1943. He was attached to RAF UK from 13 October 1943 to 30 August 1945 and served as a Flight Sergeant and Warrant Officer with 49 Squadron and RAF Station Syerston. He flew sixteen operations, including one Exodus trip - the first operation was the Dresden raid on 13/14 February 1945 and other targets included Hamburg, Wurzburg and the V1/V2 factory at Nordhausen (49 Squadron Association). WO Munt was Discharged on 18 October 1945. His father - Henry (Service No:QX31729) - and sister Noreen (Service No:Q268026) also served in WWII.
Born in 1924 in Biggenden QLD, Mort was the eldest child of Henry Morton Munt (b1903 in Dallarnil, Biggenden, QLD) and Gladys Catherine Spencer (b1900 in Tyrone, QLD). Henry (a Farmer) and Gladys married in 1923 in Biggenden, QLD and settled at Dallarnil where they raised their family and Henry was a Farmer.
Mort attended Gatton Agricultural College and was a Farm Hand in Dallarnil when he enlisted in the RAAF. Following his Discharge, Mort returned to Dallarnil where he was a Farmer and in the early 1950s married Kathleen Ruth Bowd (b1932 in Murgon, QLD). Mort and Kathleen settled in Pialba QLD where Mort was a Farmer. Following Mort's death in 1984, Kathleen remarried and died in 2019.
