Ethelbert Binns was born on the 19 of December 1892 in Yorkshire, England. His parents were Priestley Binns and Alice Ann Rhodes. 

Ethelbert occupation was the orchardist of Lunawanna south Burnie, Tasmania. He enlisted in 1915, February 24 as private in 4th Australian Divisional train in Brighton, Tas. At the time he was an unmarried orchidist, aged 22 years and 3 months. He first departed for active service at Wardianin 1915 September 23. He took a couple of trips to the hospital during his serving time. First time going to serapeum hospital, sick with influenza. Second time with tonsillitis. In 1916 he switched to private at his own request. He started in the field in 1918 and was promoted in the field temporary to corporal the same year. He did have a wife and family. His wife was Elsie May Milner and he had three daughters in which are labeled as private.

In 1919, October 10 he was discharged as he was medically unfit with chronic nasopharyngitis and laryngitis.

Its unclear what happens specifically after he was discharged. But Ethelbert did enlist again for service in WW2 and was a Warrant Officer Class 1 when finally discharged in 1946.
