Previous Military service with 49th Infantry. Enlisted as Guner 2nd Brigade 5th Reinforcements No.4214. Then transfered as Corporal No.121 to Army Pay Corps No.1. Depot 14 Aug.1916 in U.K.

"GRIFFIN.- On the 14th December, at his parents residence (as result of wounds received on Gallipoli) Gunner Charles Gilbert, dearly loved fifth son of Mr. and Mrs. George A. S. Griffin, of "Stanmore", Burke road East Malvern, and brother of Captain Frank, Lieut.
