Died on this date – 19th February and buried in Durrington Cemetery, Wiltshire. Private Kenneth William Ayliffe was born in Camden Town, London, England in 1890.
Kenneth W. Ayliffe was recorded as an outward passenger from London bound for Sydney, Australia on the Orsova which departed London on 12th April, 1912. He was listed as a 21 year old Baker & his intended future permanent residence was listed as Australia.
He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 21st October, 1916 as a 26 year old, single, Baker from Cowra, NSW. He had previously been rejected from serving due to his teeth.
On 9th November, 1916 Private Kenneth William Ayliffe, Service number 6947, embarked from Sydney, NSW on HMAT Benalla (A24) with the 2nd Infantry Battalion, 23rd Reinforcements & disembarked at Devonport, England on 9th January, 1917.
He was admitted to Fargo Hospital, Wiltshire on 10th February, 1917 with Influenza from 1st Training Battalion, Durrington. On 12th February, 1917 Private Ayliffe was reported seriously ill with pneumonia.
Private Kenneth William Ayliffe died at 12.15 p.m. on 19th February, 1917 at Fargo Military Hospital of Bronchitis & pneumonia.
Was buried in Durrington Cemetery, Wiltshire, England on 21st February, 1917. Private Ayliffe was buried in Grave number 206. There are a total of 141 Australian WW1 War Graves located in Durrington Cemetery, Wiltshire, England.
