Private Neil Kenneth Brady (Service No:WX12703) enlisted in the Army on 9 May 1941 and was attached to 2/2 Commando Regiment on 8 December 1941 when he embarked for Kupang on board SS Zealandia, returning to Darwin on 8 December 1942 on board the Tjerk Hiddes. Private Brady transferred to 2/16 Infantry Battalion on 6 June 1943, serving with the Battalion in New Guinea and North East Indies (Morotai and Balikapan). Private Brady embarked from Singapore for Sydney on 1 January 1946 on board the Moreton Bay and was Discharged on 14 January 1946. Siblings Alfred, Ernest and Bill also served in WWII.
Born in 1920 in Greenough WA, Neil was the fifth of twelve children of William George Brady (b1882 in Dongara, WA) and Hannah Maud Brandis (b1985 in Greenough, WA). William (a Labourer) and Hannah married in 1913 in Dongara, WA and settled in Greenough (where William was a Farm Hand) before moving to Midland Junction in the 1920s. William worked as a Labourer and Fuel Man.
Neil worked as a Labourer in Midland Junction WA before enlisting in the Army. In 1944 at Midland Junction he married Hazel Cauleen/Colleen Marshall (b1923 in Guildford, WA). Neil and Hazel settled in Midland Junction where Neil worked as a Dairyman and, on 3 October 1957 applied to enlist in the RAAF. Neil and Hazel lived in Midland where Neil worked as an Assistant Lineman (1958). In the 1960s Hazel was on her own in Midland and by 1977 Neil was living in Busselton WA where he was a Mail Driver and Hazel was living in Greenmount WA where she died in 1978. Neil died in 1985 and was buried in Geraldton.
