"...4728 Private Joseph Bertie Atkinson, 9th Battalion. A linesman of Millchester, Qld, Atkinson enlisted on 7 October 1915. He embarked from Brisbane aboard HMAT Commonwealth (A73) with the 15th reinforcements on 28 March 1916. He was transferred to the 31st Battalion on 11 October 1916 and was wounded in action on 24 October 1916. He returned to his battalion on 3 April 1917. On 12 April 1918 Pte Atkinson suffered a gun shot wound to the head and died of these wounds on 23 May 1918, aged 26. He is buried at St Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, France.
