Gunner Charles Henry Makings (Service Nos:NX190472/N167337) enlisted initially in the ACMF in February 1942 and was attached to 78 Mobile Search Light Battery when he transferred to the AIF in January 1944. Gunner Makings served in New Guinea (28 October 1943 - 20 March 1944) and North Borneo (4 May 1945 - 19 December 2945). He was attached to 2/3 Anti Aircraft Regiment Search Light Battery when he was Discharged in January 1946.
Born in Muwillumbah, NSW in 1921, Mick was the eldest of three children of Charles Henry Makings (b1896 in Warwick, QLD) and Cecilia Jane McNamara(b1902 in Grafton, NSW). Charles was a Farm Labourer in Tenterfield NSW in 1915 when he enisted in the AIF (Service No:2650) and was a Farmer when he and Cecilia married in 1921 in Murwillumbah, NSW. Charles and Cecilia moved to Cowper, NSW where Charles as a Stock Inspector - he also served in WWII (Service No:N457496).
Mick was a Station Hand at Yugilbar Station via Grafton, NSW when he enlisted with the ACMF. In 1942 in Grafton, NSW he married Iris Charlotte Waghorn (b1923 in Grafton, NSW) and stated in his Attestation Papers (AIF) that he was a Bee Keeper at Baryulgil via Grafton NSW. Mick and Iris settled in Baryulgil via Grafton in NSW where Mick was a Bee Keeper (Apiarist) and Stock Inspector. Iris died in 1983 and Mick in 1993.
