Thomas Mcnaughton was born in Perthshire, Scotland. He had one brother who lived in Scotland and Thomas had not been invlolved in the military before.
Thomas enlisted on January the 3rd in 1917 and during the war had made it to the rank of Private. He was not wounded but fell ill with influenza in May 1918. He returned to Australia in August 1919.
