Births Jun 1891 Barnes Thomas Albert Nottingham 7b 311.
He was the son of Edward and Martha Barnes and the brother of Willie, Arthur and Clarice Barnes. In 1901 they lived at 8 Woodville Terrace, Bloomsgrove Street Radford Nottingham. He was the adopted son of Joseph and Annie Alice Sinfield, of 'The Oaks', Dumaress Street Gordon, New South Wales.

2nd Bn Thomas Albert Barnes (alias Bernard Thomas Sinfield), enlisted on 23rd August 1914 in Australia.
Date of enlistment from Nominal Roll 22 August 1914
He had completed eight years previous military service in the Royal Navy. He served as an Able Seaman on HMAS "Australia".
Death notice published 6th July 1915 in the Nottingham Evening Post :-
“BARNES. – Killed in action, Private T. A. Barnes, 2nd Battalion Australian Imperial Forces. He's gone to heaven to abide; to rest by his mother's side. Gone from our sight, not from our hearts; we shall meet again where no one parts. Dad, sister, and brothers.”
In memoriam published 25th April 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :-
“BARNES. – In loving memory of Private Thomas A. Barnes, Australian Imperial Forces, killed in action April 25th, 1915. To live in hearts of those we loved is not to die. – Dad, sister, and brothers.”
In memoriam published 25th April 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :-
“BARNES. – In affectionate remembrance of Pte. T. A. Barnes (Tom), 2nd Batt. A.I.F. (late H.M.A.S. Australia), killed in action at the Dardanelles, April 25th, 1915. The sweetest bloom from the bunch was picked. – Loving dad, sister, and brothers.”
Biography
Tommy Barnes had been in the Royal Navy for eight years when he came out to Australia on the new HMAS Australia on loan to the Royal Australian Navy.
He stayed on Australia until June of 1914 when he enlisted in the AIF. He landed at Gallipoli on the 25th April 1915 but only lasted until the 2nd May.
He has no known grave but is listed on the wall at the Lone Pine Memorial.
A Letter exists written to his new family in Sydney saying they would be home by Christmas and sending his love.
