Corporal Alexander Arthur McGregor (Service No:VX129013) initially served in the ACMF (Corporal; Service No:V240280) with LHQ Signals before enlisting in the AIF on 13 December 1944 with 16 Infantry Training Battalion. Corporal McGregor was attached to 1 Australian Ordnance Depot at Discharge on 9 September 1946.
Born in 1923 in Beaufort Victoria, Cobber was third of six children of Alexander (Alex) Thomas McGregor (b1893 in Eurambeen, Victoria) and Mary Elizabeth Victoria Spicer (b1899 in Raglan, Victoria). Alex served in WWI (Private; Service No:4270) and WWII (Private; Service No:V240787) and was a Labourer in Beaufort in 1919 when he and Mary married. Alex and Mary settled in Beaufort where Alex worked as a Labourer/Shearer.
Cobber gave his occupation as Butcher in 1941 (NAA) and in the Electoral Rolls for 1949 and 1954 he gave his occupation as 'Forces'. Cobber lived in Beaufort and worked as a Shearer until his retirement. Cobber died in 2007.
