Horace Jnr was the eldest of two children of Horace Garfield Schmidt (b1892 in Horsham, Wimmera, Victoria) and Florence Conduit (b1889 in Ararat, Victoria). Horace - a Labourer - and Florence - a Tailoress - married in 1920 in Warrnacknabeal, Victoria where they raised their family.
Horace served with the Australian Army (Private; Service Nos: V509676/VX149740). He was in Cairns, QLD in 1944 when he enlisted and was attached to 78 BIPOD when he was Discharged in October 1947.
Returning to Warracknabeal, Victoria Horace was working as a Labourer in 1950 when he married Dorothy May Godden (b1927 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Dorothy was a Clerk. Horace and Dorothy settled in Warracknabeal where Horace worked as a Labourer, Builder and Photographer. He died in 2000 and Dorothy died in 2019.
