Private Cecil William John Barnes (Service Nos:V30896/VX137716) served with 10th Field Ambulance - graded Driver. Private Barnes initially enlisted in the ACMF on 18 December 1941 and was 'in the field' in PNG on 28 February 1943 when he Discharged to enlist in the AIF the following day. Private Barnes served in New Guinea (18 December 1942 - 30 May 1944) and Borneo (Morotai, Balikapan and Ambon; 21 May 1945 - 3 December 1945), and was attached to 10th Field Ambulance at Discharge on 14 December 1945.

Cecil was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1913, eighth of ten children of Herbert John Barnes (b1876 in Geelong, Victoria) and Jane Evelyn Dickinson (b1876 in Myrtleford, Victoria). Herbert (a Carpenter) and Jane married in 1899 in Mortlake, and in the early 1900s settled in Melbourne where they raised their family and Herbert was a Carpenter until his death in 1940. 

Cecil was a Florist and Market Gardener in Melbourne when he enlisted in the Army in 1941. Following his Discharge, Cecil returned to Melbourne where he worked as a Florist until his death in 1969.
