Private Sidney George Mountford (Service Nos:WX32578/W25342) enlisted in the ACMF on 6 September 1942 as a Trooper with 10th Light Horse Regiment. He was a Private attached to 3 Field Butchery when he discharged to enlist in the AIF on 3 September 1942. Private Mountford served in Katherine/Darwin, NT (29 April 1944 - 21 December 1945) with 3 and 5 Field Butchery Coys. He was attached to 12 Australian Field Butchery Platoon when he was Discharged on 10 January 1946. Two siblings and his father also served in WWII and younger brother Stanley served with the BCOF in Japan (1946 - 1948).

Born in 1920 in Swansea Wales, Sid was the eldest of eight children of Sidney Alfred Mountford (Sid Snr; b1901 in Hay, Wales) and Margaret Kathleen Helena Pugh (b1902 in Glamorgan, Wales). Sid Snr (a Farm Hand) and Margaret married in 1920 in Hay, Wales and in 1926 with their four children, immigrated to Albany WA on board the Herminius. The family settled at Cowarumup, Margaret River on one of the blocks at Great Hope Valley. They later moved to Picton Junction nr Bunbury and then to Collie where Sid Snr was a Labourer and Orchardist. In the early 1950s Sid Snr and Margaret moved to Chidlow where they ran a small shop, and later settled in Perth WA.

Sid started work as a Labourer, and was a Butcher in Perth in 1940 when he enlisted. In 1942 Sid married Audrey Myrtle Woods (b1921 in Bunbury, WA). Following his Discharge, Sid and Audrey lived in Bunbury where Sid was a Slaughterman, Mt Magnet where he was a Police Officer and in Bunbury and Dardanup where Sid worked as a Butcher and Slaughterman. Sid died in 1989 and Audrey in 2002.
