Australians Honoured.
Lance-corporal Edwin Roland Blackadder,
son of Mrs. C. Blackadder, of No. 5 Temple
street, Stanmore, has been awarded the Military
Medal for bravery on the field. The act
for which the award has been made, is thus
officially described, by Lieutenant-colonel
Morshead; "On October 15, at Hill 40, north-
east of Ypres, Lance-corporal Blackadder was
on duty with the regimental transport, carrying
rations to the forward position. On the
convoy coming under heavy shell fire and
machine gun fire from enemy aircraft, he dis-
played both initiative and courage in getting
his men and animals into shell holes. Under
heavy shellfire he worked indefatigably at
extricating several animals that were bogged.
The success in getting rations forward was
largely due to this non-commissioned officer,
whose courage, determination, and devotion
to duty, largely stimulated the convoy to
greater efforts."
