Son of John William Fisk and Eva Jane Fisk nee Bates of 49 Third Avenue, St Peters, SA. Brother of Eva Fisk, Fred Thurlow Fisk who was killed in action while serving with the 13th Battalion on 26 September 1917 and is buried in Hooge Crater Cemetery. Plot 1, Row E, Grave 5, Tom Austin Fisk, Harold Leslie Fisk who returned to Australia on 4 July 1919 having served with the 5th Pioneer Battalion, Gertrude Talbot Fisk and Olive Millicent Fisk

During 1923 James married Gwendoline M. Jeanes in Sydney, NSW

Commenced return to Australia on 18 January 1919 aboard SS Ulysses disembarking on the 9 March 1919
