He was 37 and the son of John and Isabella Kent, of Saville Firth, Orkney Isles, Scotland. He is remembered on the Firth & Finstown War Memorial located at the side of the A965 in the middle of the village of Finstown on the Isle Orkney where he was born. Also honoured here is Private John Irvine Heddle, Service Number 1641, 42nd Bn. Australian Infantry, A.I.F- Killed in Action 29/09/1918
On the 1901 Scotland census for Redland, Orkney he was shown as a servant.
