At 8.15 p.m. on the 8th July 1915, Private Cyril Arthur Bennett, 7th Australian Light Horse Regiment (Reg No-711), labourer living with Mr. and Mrs. J. Deane of "Red Court", Hexham, New South Wales, Died of Wounds at sea at Gaba Tepe, Gallipoli, age 18 years 11 months, buried at sea between Gallipoli and Alexandria, Rev. W.C. Mayne officiated.
Born at Hexham, New South Wales on the 18th July 1896 to Thomas William (died?) of Shamrock Street, Hexham, N.S.W. and Terrigal, N.S.W. and and Sydney Bennett (died 21.10.1908, not 1909, Newcastle, N.S.W., age 36 ) of Hexham, New South Wales and Richmond Vale, N.S.W. and 31 Corlette Street, Cooks Hill, N.S.W., Cyril enlisted on the 26th November 1915 at Holsworthy, N.S.W.
Wounded in action 8.7.1915 (GSW abdomen).
Cyril’s name has been inscribed on The Lone Pine Memorial (Panel 4), Gallipoli, Turkey.
Mr. Bennett’s name has also been inscribed on the Book of Gold, Hexham Public School Roll of Honor, Hexham Methodist Church Roll of Honour, Waratah-St Philip's Anglican Church Roll of Honour and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

I have placed poppies at the Bennett memorialised gravesite in remembrance of Cyril’s service and supreme sacrifice for God, King & Country. METHODIST 2 (PRIMITIVE) 21 SE. 13.
Younger brother Stanley Raymond (born 21.3.1899, Hexham, New South Wales, enlisted 29.5.1916, 35th Battalion, Reg No-2538, died?) also served 1st A.I.F.
Older brother Royal (Roy) Leslie (born 1.2.1894, Waratah, New South Wales, enlisted 18.9.1915, 31st Battalion, Reg No-2270, died 1975, Sydney, N.S.W.) also served 1st A.I.F.
