Private Howard Raymond Stickland (Service No:WX26768) initially served in the ACMF (Private; Service No:W23770) attached to 44th Infantry Battalion from 19 December 1941 - 8 August 1942. Private Stickland served with 2nd/3rd Pioneer Battalion from 9 August 1942 and was in Morotai and Tarakan in 1945. Private Stickland was attached to 2nd/3rd Pioneer Battalion at Discharge on 17 April 1946.

Born in 1920 in Perth WA, Howard was the second of four children of Albert Edward Oakland Strickland (b1891 at Port Germein in South Australia) and Loyal Muriel Forward (b1890 in Broken Hill, NSW). Albert arrived in Fremantle WA in 1915 and was a Farmer in Wongan Hills, WA in 1916 when he and Loyal married at Victoria Plains, WA. The couple settled in Goomalling/Wongan Hills where they raised their family and Albert was a Farmer and Porter and Shunter with WAGR in Northam. In the 1940s Albert and Loyal moved to Perth where Albert was a Carpenter/Builder.

Howard was Builder in Wongan Hills when he enlisted in the ACMF, and in 1948 in Perth WA he married Patricia Catherine McClure (b1919 in Dumbleyung, WA) - Patricia was a Telephonist in Perth. Howard and Patricia lived in Harvey WA, where Howard was a Builder before moving to Perth, where Howard was a Shopkeeper and later a Rigger. Howard died in 1990 and Patricia in 1999.
