John was born in Claremont, Fremantle WA in 1920, son of James (Jim) Unwin McCubbing (b1895 in Glasgow, Scotland) and Louisa Cook (b1896 in Surrey, England). Jim (a Soldier) married Louisa in 1915 in Epsom, Surrey - Jim was a Quartermaster Sergeant (Service No:454) in the AIF. Jim and Louisa settled in Claremont, Fremantle WA where they raised their two children, and Jim worked as a Clerk.
John joined the Bank of Australasia as a Bank Teller and was in Carnamah WA in December 1941 when he enlisted in the ACMF (Trooper; Service No:W20252). He served with 25 Light Horse (Machine Gun) Regiment and 25 Reconnaisance Battalion, and Discharged to enlist in the AIF. John served (Lance Corporal; Service No:WX28456) with2nd/4th Pioneer Battalion in Halmahera Islands, Borneo, Labuan and Sarawak (Highgate RSL). He was Discharged in March 1946.
Returning to Claremont, Fremantle WA, John worked as a Bank Officer before working as a Bank Offcier in Wellington, New Zealand from 1949 . In the early 1950s in Wellington, New Zealand, Jim married Pauline Hilda and the couple moved to Melbourne, Victoria in the early 1960s. By the mid 1970s the couple had settled in Perth WA. John was a Bank Manager and served as State Manager of ANZ Banking Groups from 1974 to 1981. In 1975 he was Chair of the Association of Banks WA and in 1977 he served as Deputy Chair and Treasurer of the Queen Elizabeth Silver Jubilee Appeal. He was appointed to the WA Government review of Lower Secondary Education. John died in 2013.
