Son of William Young Veitch and Ellen Veitch of Greta, NSW. Brother of Robert Sidney Veitch who returned to Australia on 9 August 1919 45th and 63rd Battalions.

Husband of Gertrude May Veitch nee Scaley of The Retreat, Greta, NSW formerly of West  Lavington, England. William and Gertrude married on 8 October 1919 in the Parich Church, Bishops Lavington, Wiltshire, England.

Between 30 June 1919 and 30 September 1919 he undertook a course in Instruction of Tailor's Cutting with R.B. Cooper and The Tailor & Cutter in Engand

Commenced return to Australia on 20 December 1919 aboard HT Runic disembarking on 6 February 1920 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney
