Hastings Elwin A'BECKETT was born on 3rd August, 1890 at "Lianarth" Bathurst NSW.

His parents were William Channing A'BECKETT and Jessie Gertrude SMITH

He enlisted as a Private on 23rd November, 1914 with the 6th Light Horse Regiment  - embarked from Sydney on 21st December, 1914 on the ship SUEVIC - he was  promoted to 2nd Lieutenant 12th March, 1916 and to Lieutenant on 12th August, 1916 & moved to the 1st Battalion

He was awarded the Military Cross for conspicious gallantry in action (see story in following link for full details)

He dropped his age by 10 years and also served in World War 2 - Service No. NX26646

Hastings died on 21st August, 1969 in Wellington and is buried in Wellington Lawn Cemetery
