Add my storyBiography contributed by Geoffrey Gillon
He was 25 and the son of Maggie Potter, of Brown's Land, Auchintibber, High Blantyre, Lanarkshire, Scotland, and the late William Potter.
He is remembered on the Auchentibber war memorial, which was unveiled in May 1923, and was built by the people of Auchentibber to mark 14 of their men who died during WW1 conflicts. It is to be found at Sydes Brae, Auchentibber, High Blantyre , South Lanarkshire, [UKNIWM Ref No: 6002]. The marble used was salvaged from the old Hamilton Palace. Remembrance day services are jointly held at this location at the same time as at the Cenotaph War Memorial in High Blantyre Cemetery.
Auchentibber, now sometimes spelled Auchentiber or Auchintibber, is more of a parish than a place. Even today it is an area of a few farms so one can only imagine what these losses meant to the area. It is a hamlet (Scottish Gaelic, Achadh an Tiobair) in North Ayrshire, Parish of Kilwinning, Scotland.
ERECTED BY THE PEOPLE OF AUCHENTIBBER IN PROUD AND LOVING MEMORY OF THEIR GLORIOUS DEAD 1914-1919
He is also remembered on the Blantyre War Memorial.
"Salute the memory of these thy sons who with hardihood endurance and courage fought & laid down their lives in the Great War"
"Their name shall be had in everlasting remembrance".
This is located at High Blantyre ,Cemetery Road, High Blantyre , South Lanarkshire.
