My father, Harold Roy Allester, served in the 42 Infantry Battalion (Company A), 29 Infantry Brigade. He was in the army from 5 Nov 1941 to 1 August 1946. He was 19 years old when he was conscripted. He had 624 active days of service in Australia and 947 days of active service outside Australia. His training took place in Queensland. He saw active service from Milne Bay to Salamaua, through Lae and Bougainville. He spent a short period in 22 Infantry Battalion while at Rabaul, New Britain. He returned to Australia in 1946.
