Robert was the eldest of five children of Leslie Francis Green (b1891 in Penshurst, Victoria) and Millicant (Millie)Folwell (nee Rule; b1890 in Koroit, Victoria). Lelsie (a Storeman) and Millie (a Widow with four children) married in 1920 in Melbourne, Victoria where they raised their family. Leslie had served in WWI with 1st Anzac Army Corps Light Horse Regiment (Private; Service No:3360).
Robert was a Motor Trimmer in Melbourne, Victoria when he enlisted in the Australian Army in April 1940. He served as a Private (Service No:V122021) with 57/60th Infantry Battalion in New Guinea (10 March 1943 to 5 August 1944) and the Solomons (1 January 1945 to 7 December 1945). He was Discharged in January 1946.
In March 1942 Robert married Joyce Gladys Johnstone (b1920 in Melbourne, Victoria. Following Robert's Discharge, the couple settled in melbourne, Victoria where Robert died in 1989 and Joyce in 2005.
