Private Phillip Marino (Service No:V367496) served in the ACMF with 11th Battalion (Vic) VDC from 13 March 1942 to 20 September 1945. His four sons - Joseph, Alexander, Percy and Philip Jnr - also served in WWII.
Phillip was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1892, seventh of ten children of Joseph Marino (b1858 in Naples, Italy) and Helen Fallen (b1859 in Edinburgh, Scotland). Joseph was a Confectioner in 1883 when he and Helen married in Edinburgh, where they settled and raised their family. Joseph was a Musician - Orchestral Violinist - and during WWI had to register as a friendly alien. Five of his sons served in the British Army in WWI.
Phillip worked as a Labourer and served in the British Army in France in WWI - Corporal (Regimental No:721) with the Royal Field Artillery Regiment. In 1920 he married Annie Grace Jack (b1893 in Innerleven, Fifeshire, Scotland) - Annie was a Spinner. Phillip and Annie settled in Glasgow, where they raised their family and Phillip worked as a Labourer. They immigrated in 1928, arriving in Melbourne, Victoria on board the Demosthenes with their five children. Phillip and Annie settled in Trafalgar, Victoria where they raised their family and Phillip worked as a Labourer. Phillip died in 1967 and Annie in 1999.
