After receiving public school education he entered a business college for a term.
Joined the Bank of New South Wales, Fremantle, Western Australia, branch, 10 April 1910; transferred to Perth branch, May 1911; to Kalgoorlie branch, August 1914.
Embarked from Fremantle WA on board HMAT A20 Horarata on 26 April 1915.
After the Somme battle of July 1916, in which he took part, he was recommended for a commission, and proceeded to the Gales School of Instruction in Scotland. He was gazetted lieutenant in October, and re-joined his battalion in France. After eleven months of further service a the front, he was killed by an enemy shell in Polygon Wood on 20th September 1917.

Biography
Morton McLeod ALLAN was born on 28th February, 1894 in Kadina, South Australia (his war record states he was born in Perth which is incorrect)
His parents were Thomas ALLAN and Mary Elizabeth MELVILLE
He enlisted with the Australian Army on 2nd February, 1915 - he was with the 12th Battalion, 5th reinforcements - Unit embarked from Fremantle on board HMAT Hororata on 26th April, 1915
Morton was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on 23rd October, 1916 and to Lieutenant on 7th February, 1917 - he was recommended for an award on 2nd March, 1917 for conspicous gallantry and iniitiative under fire (Award name unknown)
He was Killed in Action on 20th September, 1917 in Polygon Wood ( no known grave) and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial and also the Australian War Memorial - he was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal & the Victory Medal.
