Trooper Adey embarked with the Camel Corps on the 12th December, 1916 from Sydney (NSW) on HMAT Medic (A7) and marched into Moarcar on the 19th January, 1917. On the 17th February, 1917 he was taken into strength with the 2nd Light Horse Regiment and marched out 5 days later on the 22nd. On the 3rd May he was marched into the 4th Light Horse Training Regiment, and on the 19th May, he was sent to the 4th Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron, and taken onto strength the same day. He went to a rest camp on the 15th September, 1917 and was marched back out to his unit a week later on the 22nd. On the 2nd March, 1918 he was marching back to a rest camp at Port Said and he rejoined his unit on the 17th March. Private Adey was charged on the 27th April, 1918 for ‘(1) Being out of Bounds (2) Not in possession of an identity disc JAFFA 19-4-18 awarded 4 days Field Punishment No.2 at Selmeh 26-4-18. 4 days at 5/- : xxx £1-0-0’. He was sent to hospital on the 6th July, where he was admitted into the 4th Light Horse Field Ambulance Hospital and being transferred between hospitals around Gaza, Kantara and Moarcar, and was said to have had a new disease. He ended up being charged again for ‘creating a disturbance’, being deprived of 7 days pay. He returned to Australia and arrived on the day after Christmas, 1918, being discharged at the 2nd Military District on the 10th February, 1919.
