"OBITIUARY.  COLONEL S. MIDGLEY. Boer and First War Veteran

The passing of Mr. Stephen Midgley, in the Greenslopes Military Hospital, after a lengthy illness, at the age of almost 84 years, removes a former well-known Nambour resident and soldier. The late Mr. Midgley served in both the Boer and First World Wars, in the last-named conflict he was a member of the Fifth Light Horse and was thrice mentioned in despatches. He rose to the rank of Colonel and received the C.M.G., D.S.O. and decorations. For about 30 years the late Mr. Midgley resided at Nambour, but in recent years made his home at Redland Bay. In addition to his wife, he leaves one son, Mr. H. Midgley (Nambour), and daughter, Miss S. Midgley (Redland Bay)." - from the Nambour Chronicle 29 Oct 1954 (nla.gov.au)
