Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Private Percy Francis Rodda (Service No:V365187) initially served in the Militia from 29 April 1922 (Private, Corporal: Service No:VE81165) with 13th Light Horse Regiment before enlisting in the ACMF on 27 March 1942. Private Rodda was attached to 13th Battalion (Vic) VDC at Discharge on 19 September 1945.

Pery was born in Thorpdale, Victoria in 1903, youngest of fourteen children of John Rodda (b1860 in Creswick, Victoria) and Annie James Botheras (b1860 in Ballarat, Victoria). John was a Farmer in 1880 when he and Annie married in Daylesford, where they settled and raised their family and John was a Farmer. John and Annie moved to Musk Creek via Daylesford and then to Thorpdale where John was a Farmer and Labourer.

Percy was a Dairy Farmer in Thorpdale in 1923 when he married Edith Melba (aka Melba) Bloom (b1905 in Lockhart, NSW). Percy and Melba lived in Thorpdale, where Percy was a Dairy Farmer, moving to Airly in 1932 - where Percy was a Farmer and Melba was Postmistress. In 1928, Melba was awarded the Royal Humane Society of Victoria Bronze Medallion and Citation for Bravery - John had been badly gored in the paddock by an enraged Jesrey bull. Melba 'belted the bull over the head with the swingle-tree of a two horse plough, stunning it sufficiently to allow her time to drag a badly gored Percy through the fence to safety' (Beverly Lyons nee Rodda; Obituary 2002).

In 1946 Percy and Melba moved to Sale with their family, and Percy was a Tile Manufacturer (Gippsland Tile Works). Selling the business in 1952, Percy and Melba moved to Wycheproof, where Percy was a Farmer, before settling in Bendigo in 1955 and working as a Contractor. Percy died in 1982 and Melba in 2002.
