BELOVED SON OF JAMES AND HARRIET RENWICK OF TOOWOOMBA, QUEENSLAND
"Sorry, greived; Andrew killed in action - Gordon". Such was the purport of a cablegram received yesterday by Mrs. Jame sRenwick, Carlowrie, Margaret Street, The Range, signifying that her eldest son, Corporal Andrew John Renwick, has made the supreme sacrifice on the fields of battle, somewhere in France. The late Corporal Renwick was about 40 years of age, and was a native of Toowoomba. Before enlisting he carried out contracting on a large scale. It was October, 1915, taht he donned the khaki, and had been in France since before last Christmas. The Renwick family is among the most highly respected in Toowoomba and it is little wonder, therefore, that the gallant soldier had a large cirle of friends here. He was a keen sporting enthusiast, like all his brothers, and was a member of the Toowoomba Bowling Club, whose members deplore the loss of a sterling friend and and upright citizen.
Captain (Dr.) Gordon Renwick who sent the cable, is himself on active service in France. Among other surviving brothers are Harry (who is in San Francisco), William (better known as "King" on the football field, in camp in Sydney), Percy (in New Zealand), and Clem who resides with his mother and sisters.
The late Corporal Renwick was a fine specimen of manhood. He was bravely met a soldier's death, which, after all, is the most glorious passing that a man could have. The universal sympathy of the community is extended to Mrs. Renwick and the relatives in their sad trouble.
